The new Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) was introduced on 6 April 2007.
Under the new scheme subcontractors may be entitled to receive payments without deduction of tax, have a standard deduction rate of 20%, or could even be liable to a higher rate deduction of 30%. Contractors will now have to issue payment and deduction summaries to their sub-contractors and submit monthly returns to HMRC.
